Examining Xcel’s Clean Heat Plan
& Why It Matters to YOU

PSR Colorado (Physicians for Social Responsibility) and Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES) experts critique Xcel's new Clean Heat Plan proposal and discuss how we can push for a better plan together.

Xcel's proposal will affect Coloradans' health, safety, finances and future climate, whether it's your utility or not.

Background: By law, every large gas utility in Colorado must submit a Clean Heat Plan for greenhouse gas emission reduction to the Public Utilities Commission. Xcel's plan, now under review, is the first and farthest-reaching. The PUC's ruling on the plan, due in 2024, will affect air pollution, consumer energy bills, and climate policy statewide for years to come.

Presenters

Lauren Swain, Coordinator PSR Colorado - Physicians for Social Responsibility

Dr. Chuck Kutscher, Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES) Policy Committee
Fellow, Univ. of Colo. Renewable & Sustainable Energy Inst.
Former Director, NREL Buildings & Thermal Sciences Center (ret.)
Licensed Professional Engineer in CO and CA.

Justin Brant, Utility Program Director
Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP)

Nikie Wells, Environmental Justice Director

Hydrogen Blending Action Webinar

PSR national expert, Barb Gottlieb, describes the health, safety and climate impacts of piping hydrogen-methane blends into homes. She discusses why hydrogen blending increases overall GHG emissions and perpetuates fossil fuel dependence, gas stove indoor air pollution and health inequities; and how it increases the risk of accidents and fires. She identifies alternatives to hydrogen and methane that are healthier, safer, and more efficient. PSR Colorado coordinator, Lauren Swain, discusses Xcel's hydrogen blending demonstration project and its new "Clean Heat Plan Plus" proposal, recently submitted to Colorado's Public Utilities Commission (PUC).

Hydrogen Blending: A Dangerous Pipe Dream

Featuring PSR National expert, Barb Gottleib, and Lauren Swain, PSR Colorado Coordinator.

Hydrogen Blending: A Dangerous Pipe Dream describes how blending hydrogen with methane (fracked or so-called “natural” gas) and piping it into our homes increases the risk of explosions and fires, releases hazardous air pollutants, and perpetuates dependence on methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Become informed to help advocate against this false climate solution and share this material with your public officials.

Fracked Hydrogen: True "Blue" or "Green"-washed?

PSR Colorado is proud to have collaborated with our allies to host this important webinar. Please watch and share widely.

In "Fracked Hydrogen: True "Blue" or "Green"-washed?", Harv Teitelbaum (PSR / Colorado Rising for Communities / Environmental Health Project) and Brian DeBruine (Colorado Hydrogen Network) discuss the different colors of hydrogen and how they impact funding for research, the emerging regulatory environment, and the plans of the oil and gas industry.

Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and, some say, the energy source of the future. It can be produced sustainably as “green” hydrogen, but most manufactured hydrogen today is “grey”, produced from fracked gas. The oil and gas industry has tweaked that process and now calls the resultant hydrogen “blue”. But does it warrant the cleaner, more wholesome label?
